144 Sig Sqn supports units in the 9th Brigade with field deployable combat net radio, telephony, trunking and Local Area Network (LAN) systems, in addition to providing communications security and frequency management services.
The unit's main elements are located at Keswick Barracks in Adelaide with an additional detachment located in Hobart.
Post World War Two, the reserve signals presence in the Central Region had been known as the Central Command Signals Squadron, 404th Signals Squadron and 122nd Signals Squadron.
144 Sig Sqn was raised in 1966 to support the 9th Task Force and has undergone numerous reorganisations supporting the 4th Field Force Group, 4th Military District and since 1988, the 9th Brigade.
The Squadron relocated in 1992 from Beulah Park to its present location in Keswick Barracks.
The Squadron was granted Freedom of the City of Burnside in 1987.
In recent times, Squadron members have deployed on peace keeping operations to the Solomon Islands, East Timor, Bougainville, The Sinai, Malaysia and Cambodia.
The motto of 144th Signal Squadron is 'Certa Cito', which is Latin for 'Swift and Sure'.
