TRANSPORT
Wing of Distribution Division ALTC will increase the delivery
of driver training from 2003 through an outsourced commercial
contract.
The
contract will be for C2 (Land Rover) training over a nine-year
period with an value of $40 million.
2IC
Dist Div ALTC Maj Bob Gough said trainee throughput should increase
by about 1400 trainees a year.
The
major increase in driver training is needed to meet the increase
in requirement for trained drivers Defence-wide, he said.
The
majority of soldiers need at least a Land Rover licence in order
to enhance the range of tasks they are required to do.
Contract C2 training will see four contractor training troops
for C2 driver training at Puckapunyal and Wirlinga, near Albury-Wodonga.
C2
training at Puckapunyal will primarily focus on IETs passing through
ACATC units while Wirlinga will be used for ALTC IET soldiers.
The
real bonus of contracted training is that soldiers will arrive
in units with a licence and Land Command units will no longer
have to conduct unit courses.
