Anzac
spirit alive and well
By
Cpl Alisha Carr
THERE
can be no doubt that the Anzac spirit that links Australia and New
Zealand remains of the utmost importance, with a recent visit by
the NZ Army Chief of General Staff strengthening the already-strong
ties.
While
visiting CA Lt-Gen Peter Leahy, Maj-Gen Jerry Mateparae took time
to speak to Army and said the purpose of his visit to Australia
was to develop the relationship and bring into line the two armies.
In
the past the working relationship between Australian and NZ soldiers
has been excellent, he said.
In
the operational areas we work together very well but it is important
that we invest a lot of effort to ensure the relationship remains
strong in the future.
We
are spending a day in Canberra, Sydney, Puckapunyal and Melbourne.
He
said although the Anzac legend is turning into a cliché,
the message behind it was more important today than ever.
We
have a shared history and a shared place in the world. Our countries
have the same values and we have similar interests in the region.
The
competitiveness we share is healthy and I wouldnt want it
to stop.
