Australian Army Museum Bandiana

About

The Australian Army Museum Bandiana was established in October 1997. It collects, preserves and exhibits the history of various corps of the Australian Army including:

  • Royal Australian Army Chaplains Department
  • Royal Australian Corps of Transport
  • Royal Australian Army Medical Corps
  • Royal Australian Army Dental Corps
  • Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corps
  • Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
  • Australian Army Catering Corps
  • Australian Army Psychology Corps
  • Royal Australian Army Nursing Corps
  • Women’s Royal Australian Army Corps (disbanded)
  • Royal Australian Army Service Corps (disbanded).

The museum builds on the corps collections, with the enhancement of heritage learning in the following areas:

  • 2/23rd Australian Infantry Battalion
  • Australian Women's Army Service
  • Australian Service Nurses
  • Australian Army Apprentices
  • logistic deployment in United Nations.

The museum has a large research library which contains many rare and historical books. The library also contains many original photographs, documents and records relating to military units and their members in times of war and peace. The library is not a lending library. Research is to be conducted on site.

Opening hours

The museum is open Thursday to Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm.

The museum is closed on:

  • Good Friday
  • Easter Monday
  • ANZAC Day
  • Christmas Eve until New Year’s Day inclusive.

Entry requirements

There are security restrictions that govern access to the museum as it is located within Gaza Ridge Barracks. Visitors will need to:

  • park to the left of the barracks entrance road
  • walk to the security gate house with a photo identification
  • inform the guard of their visit to the museum and follow their instructions.

Visitors must complete and understand the national base induction before accessing a Defence site. Further information can be found on Albury Wodonga Military Area induction page.

Bookings

A small admission fee is charged for entry to the museum. Admission is free for currently serving Australian Defence Force members and families, disability carers and their clients.

Guided tours are available by appointment. School and organised group visits must be booked in advance by contacting the museum.

The museum has a conference room available for hire.

All visitors must provide the following details:

  • date and time of visit
  • approximate numbers
  • vehicle details.
