The 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (7 RAR) will be honoured for the unit’s achievements in Iraq during a formal parade in Adelaide at the Torrens Parade Ground on Saturday 30 September.
The community can expect increased presence of Australian Army personnel in the region and loud noises from the firing of three volleys using blank cartridges.
Volley fire can be traced back as far as the 14th century where it was used as a tactic to place a heavy weight of fire from a group of single shot, muzzle loaded muskets. Today with the progression of infantry weapon systems the requirement for volley fire is more commonly associated with celebratory events, in this instance, the affixing of 7 RAR’s Theatre Honour.
While loud, the firing of volleys is not dangerous.
The Australian Army appreciates the support of the community and recognises the traditional custodians of the land on which we operate, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
