Welcome to 2025 Army.

I do hope that for most, you had the opportunity to spend some time with those that matter most in your life and to reset for the year ahead.

To those who were deployed or working and to all of our families who moved over the Christmas break - my sincere thanks.

Last year we made remarkable progress in the comprehensive transformation of our Army … toward an Army optimised for littoral manoeuvre with a long-range land and maritime strike capability.

We will redouble our efforts this year as we work to ensure that we are able to capably fulfil our core purpose.

We exist to fight and win against those who would do harm to Australia and its interests.

Our purpose is our north star.

And our readiness and ability to fulfil our purpose serves to deter aggression.

Because the battlefield is the most demanding of human experiences, physically, intellectually and spiritually.  It requires our unwavering focus.

We owe it to our nation, our teammates and each other ensure that we are ready, relevant and credible.

That is why we train as we would fight.

Why we lead with humility and a real sense of purpose.

It is why we seek to learn from our history and continually adapt to war’s ever-changing character.

It is why we look after our mates. Always.

As you start work this year, do your best to be your best, and remember what is at stake.

We are living in perhaps the most challenging era in generations.

The time is now and it is up to us.

We must be ready to fight tonight.

I am very proud of and deeply grateful for everything you and your families do for our Army every day.

An Army in our community and an Army for our Nation.
